How to block websites on your PC

April 17, 2007

There is a very simple way of blocking the unwanted sites on your pc without using the third party software.
Just go to this location:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

there you see “hosts” file ….open it with notepad and at the end type the following:
0.0.0.0 xyz.com
i m taking the example of xyz.com
save and exit.
If you are not using XP then you may have to restart the pc for the changes to take effect.

By the way 0.0.0.0 is for null ip.

This method works well but is there any other options to allow only a list of sites and block all sites except the list? Because I have a list of 1000 sites for a business purpose and I need to boack all other sites except the list. It is usful to block sites for my employee.
