Online friends in orkut

Orkut should make some provision to tell whether our friends are online or not, though there is a gtalk feature which gives the indication when a friend is using it, but not all times we use gtalk.
The other way is by checking the scraps, but this is only a guess work. Facebook is far more superior to orkut , not only in this feature but also others, I like its privacy option which doesn’t allow a person to see the pics unless he is our friend, orkut adopted this feature very late after being used by people for harassing others.
FACT: Orkut is just second in popularity after myspace which is very much in use in US.

Though there is no explicit provision to see user is online or not apart from finding by gmail or gtalk status(which you mentioned), one can easily detect and guess who are online by watching the friend list in ones profile page. Those persons whose profile pics are listed in the upper first column of friendlist are highly probable to be online. You can check it out. The one who is recently online is shown as the first guy in the friends list. So I think this in fact poses a different problem. If you login to orkut, your profile pic will directly go to first upper line of active users in your friend’s friend list. Thus he will detect that you are online. But, there is no way you can prevent this from happening. And thats a problem i guess.

hi i would like to respond to mayank reply that as u said the person who are in the top list of u r frndz list are online u cant say that becoz once u do this u login and then see the pics of u r frnd who are there and the u click on u r profile photo ull come to know that some diffrent frndz photos will appear unlike the one u see when u login…………………………………………………………………
